Friends vs Warwick Boat Club

By | June 26, 2013

Sunday 23rd June 2013

We came eventually past the entrance to Warwick Castle, down a cobbled street surrounded by very old houses, to be ushered through a small arch in the buildings to find a car park specially reserved for us by the green. The green is set in idyllic surroundings, river, castle, club house and tennis courts.

We were all warmly welcomed and wanted for nothing, except not to have heavy rain when one rink was still on the green.

In the lovely club house was a notice board with details of the Friends and photographs of the Committee, and details of the Club. It was very impressive.

The lunch buffet made you want to be greedy and the after match meal was delicious. At the meal we were joined by the Club President and Club Captain, who explained about the Club sections, the Boat Club being 152 years old and the Bowls 111 years old.

Rosemary Ellman-Brown, Bowls England President and Captain of the Day thanked the Club for a superb day and Kath Lloyd gave a short explanation of the history and purpose of the Friends. Warwick Councillor Rose, who also came for the day explained how much Warwick and Leamington Spa were looking forward to 2014 when Bowls England Headquarters, Championships and Internationals will be settled at Leamington Spa. We thank her for the help being given to Bowls England.

We won the match, had a special day and it was hard to leave.
NB – All of the present Bowls England Presidential team attended this day. This was a first for the Friends.

Thank you to all of the Friends who came and a big thank you to Warwick Boat Club, Bowls Section.
