vs Berkhamstead BC – Runner Up Club of the Year 2012.
1066 and all that – Berkhampstead was where the Normans finished their invasion having encircled London. It is a lovely town in Hertfordshire with a castle, a river, a canal and a bowls club. You cross the canal from the main street and wend your way through the park and try to get parked; if only you could park one car on top of the other, but with the home bowlers’ help we all managed. On entry to the club’s grounds there was a lovely colourful flower bed in front of us and on turning the corner to the front of the club we saw sets of tables and chairs with purple cushions and purple umbrellas. A very welcome surprise made great use of on a hot sunny day.
After a ploughman’s lunch, the match was started and thoroughly enjoyed by both sides, especially if the skip could not be heard because of a train going by. Then there was a delicious meal of a homemade chicken pie followed by very generous helpings of strawberry meringue.
Thank you Ann and all your helpers. Non playing Captain of the Day, Kath Lloyd presented chocolates to the highest rinks, and a glass plaque to the Club’s President to commemorate the day and the club being Bowls England Runner Up Club of the Year 2012.
Congratulations Berkhampstead Bowls Club, you well deserved your award.
