‘Friends’ and Bowls England players arrived from all over the country for this eagerly awaited game.
The day started as it meant to continue with heavy downpours. We saw the occasional break in the weather and a patch of blue appeared in the sky – but alas this did not last very long and at five o’clock it was decided to abandon the game.
We made our way over to the Royal Navy Association where we all relaxed over a drink and laugh. Peter McNulty then entertained us with a very difficult quiz. I do not think any of us will be going on Mastermind any time in the near future.
The top table was led into the room past a guard of honour consisting of well turned out cadets. They were then piped in and a lovely ceremony commenced where the Royal Navy standard was presented. The top table looked very impressive with beautiful flowers arranged by the ladies of Leamingon Spa and with the Bowls England flag on one side and the Royal Navy on the other.
A most enjoyable buffet meal for 120 was then quickly served followed by speeches from Senior Vice President Marcia Pearce and the ‘Friends’ chairman Angela Harris.
A raffle took place which raised £332 for President Adie’s charity which is Dorothy House Hospice.
