Friends vs Rottingdean B.C.

By | September 13, 2014

Tuesday 9th September 2014

It was a perfect day with clear blue skies and one of the most picturesque settings for a bowls club. The club house is the original cow barn, complete with trough which is still in use – only it has been painted and is covered by a cushion and is now used as a seat.  (Shirley – did you know!)

The members made us most welcome and we were delighted to be part of their 80th year celebrations.  We were greeted with cups of tea, coffee and biscuits.  A lovely buffet was served and then the teams were sorted out.  As some of our players did not make it they were good enough to lend us two of their ladies.  One of our guests was kind enough to play, with borrowed woods and shoes.

We started with a spider which was won by one of the opposition. At half time we had tea and lovely chocolate biscuits and after the game, which was full of laughter, a meal was served.  The Friends won the match but had no idea how to win when it came to the raffle.

The only thing that spoilt this wonderful day was the traffic. Our players come from all over the country and the M25 made sure that most of the Friends had a horrendous journey.  Four of our players had to give up the struggle and decided to cut their losses and return home.   Great  shame –  Sue, Allan, Les and Ron, you missed out on a special day.
