A lovely sunny day greeted us at Welwyn and District Bowls club who were celebrating their 50th Anniversary. The Bowls England Senior Vice president Michael Jennings also came along.
We were greeted with a superb lunch that consisted of so much food many players were unable to move having eaten so much.
There was a spider to start off the bowling session won by Graham Annetts from Wiltshire.
The Captain of the day for Welwyn and District was our very own Membership Secretary Mike Poole. The game was played on one of the best greens that I have played on this year a really great surface that any bowls club would be proud of, many found the pace too fast for them at the start but soon found their skill overcame any difficulty. There was great spirit on the green during the game, playing in a very warm sunshine with a little breeze which kept us all cool. Lots of fun was had by all and the game was won by the Friends.
There was a very good raffle with numerous prizes and combined with the spider a total of £320 was made for the Parkinson’s charity.
We were then entertained to a 3 course meal cooked by the club President Chris Sherriff which found those who were able to walk after lunch were unable to walk after this wonderful meal.
After the meal the Captain of the Day John Thompson presented the club with a plaque to be displayed in the clubhouse to remind all those attending what a superb game it was.
