Linslade bowlers together with the Friends and the Mayor
A lovely day was spent celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Linslade Bowling Club in Bedfordshire.
The Friends engaged in a friendly match which was competitive but retaining the true spirit of social bowls.
The club is one which has taken recruitment very seriously and through their qualified Coach Bowls coaches and assistants have attracted a constant stream of new recruits. We learnt about all the varied activities which the club provides for their members. These range from whist drives to a curry night! The Linslade Club Tours are most popular (if not infamous) and I understand that ‘on tour’ members are ‘fined’ for almost everything!!! At the end of the bowling holiday money collected is donated to charity.
Hard working County Officers Doris Welstead and Peter Lee are active club members. The former making the morning tea and coffee, the latter manning the bar!!

The match was closely fought – the Friends winning by a small margin. As Captain of the day I provided prizes and made the speech but Adie Lloyd did all the hard work in the background by selecting the team and completing the scorecards and collating results.
Thank you Adie for making my bi annual bowls match so enjoyable and for selecting players to enable us to take the highest winning rink prize, snatching this from your rink on the very last end!!!
Thanks to the Club for their wonderful hospitality and I was delighted to present ‘The Friends’ pennant to their President and Captain in commemoration of their special year.
