Sunday 2nd June The Friends of English Bowling were today playing Suffolk BE in Ipswich, at the Ipswich & District BC. What a great venue – six rinks indoors, and 6 rinks outdoors! and a lovely clubhouse to boot, oh and not to forget the beautiful flower beds surrounding the green. Friends arriving from 11 counties, were able to purchase yummy bacon or sausage butties, and relaxed in the sunshine before the game began at 2pm.
Suffolk BE’s Senior Vice President Colin Hunting together with Captain of the Day for Friends, Paul Robson, welcomed all and set out the game plan – we played five rinks, 21 ends and 2 trial ends – and were still smiling at the end (if a little tired). The weather was just the best for bowling, and the green was alive with the sounds of bowlers enjoying the sport. Friends lost on three rinks, winning on two, but with their top rink winning by 18 shots Friends were the final victors with a score of 100-86.
The two top rinks: 1) for FoEB, R Docker, J Baker, P Robson & M Bertrand and 2) for Suffolk BE, T Hartman, P Girling, M Hartman & D Mole. Both teams were congratulated and duly awarded by the Captains following the hearty meal provided.
Altogether a brilliant game, in brilliant sunshine, and a great kick off to Friends visit to Suffolk.
Thank you Suffolk BE, and the Ipswich & District BC.
Paul Robson, PPBE
