It got Heated in Canterbury

Sunday 4th August ’24

Day two of our weekend in Kent, and the sun was out in full force.  Our game today was at Canterbury Bowling Club, and what a magnificent venue, a lovely roomy clubhouse, and great facilities, with two greens available for play.   Many of the Friends arrived early, and it was a pleasure to spend time relaxing in the sunshine with a cool drink, and filled rolls were available to keep the wolves away.   It was going to be a scorcher!  Ladies President Sue Close, and Captain Mandy Catt made us very welcome together with Paul Robson our Captain of the Day.

We expected it to be hot, and it certainly was.   We played 18 ends, with two trial ends, in what turned out to be a very competitive game.  Both teams won 3 rinks each, however Canterbury took the victory, with a final score of 94-96.   A brilliant game, on a great green.

We were treated to a magnificent after-match meal, and the two Captains voiced their thanks to the kitchen team, and Mike too, who had been kept busy at the bar.   The top rinks from both teams were congratulated – for Friends:  Carolyn, Ian, Adie and Paul Osborn, and for Canterbury: Phil, Michael, Bob and Yvonne.

Friends from 11 counties were playing today:  Beds, Bucks, Cambs,  Cornwall, Herefordshire, Herts, Hants, Norfolk, Kent, Somerset and Sussex.  Captain Paul drew the occasion to a close by presenting President Sue and Captain Mandy with our certificate, as a reminder of our day together.    And what a smashing day it was –  thank you so much Canterbury Bowling Club!

Captain of the Day
