Our Kent Games began at Herne Bay BC

Saturday 3rd August

The first of our three games in Kent took us to Herne Bay BC.  So nice to take a peek at the sea, before we found our way to the venue.   Friends from 11 different counties were made welcome to the specious clubhouse.  Today was a good temperature – the sun was just about out – and after a little confusion over the start time, we all collected together for the traditional team photo, and the game began.

It took a while for us to find the lines (unfortunately some of us never did) however Friends didn’t do too badly, winning on all six rinks, with an overall score of 112-76.  Well done to all, especially our highest scoring rink no.6 with a +13 shot win: Lesley Summersgill, Ian Perry, Richard Payton and Lindsay Bangs.   Carolyn Hunt, Captain of the Day for Friends, made sure they were applauded, and awarded, together with the lowest losing rink for Herne Bay:  Val M, Peter N, Pam H and Peter B.

The after match meal was a real treat, bacon wrapped chicken breast, yorkshire pud. and loads of veg.  followed by a selection of gateau/cheesecakes.     Grateful thanks was given to the kitchen team: Jacky, Jane L, Jane C and Chris.   The bar team, Paul and Sue were also thanked for their welcome service!

Happy Birthday Maggie

Captain Carolyn announced that we were such good Friends that one of our member’s wives, Maggie Pearce, was very happy to spend her ‘special’ birthday with us!   At each of our tables there was an individual cake for us all, spelling out the words happy birthday.   Happy Birthday  was sung with great gusto!

The afternoon was wound up with the customary presentation of Friend’s certificate to Captain Tony, and all wished a safe journey back to their respective homes/accommodation.

A lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all, and thank you Herne Bay for your warm, friendly company.

Carolyn Hunt
Captain of the Day
