Sunday, September 15th saw the Friends at their final celebration game of the season, and the 3rd game in Wiltshire. Five Rivers Indoor Bowling Club, based in Salisbury, is celebrating 40 years this coming season, and it is the first indoor club that the Friends have visited. We were welcomed by Graham, President and Captain of the Day and were given a buffet lunch prepared for us before the match. Being so early in the Indoor season, it was the first game for many of 5 Rivers players, and for some another game against the Friends, having played at Salisbury Bowls Club the previous day.
For those of you wondering where the club got the name, the 5 rivers in Salisbury are the Avon, Nadder, Ebble, Wylye and Bourne.
The club has just 4 rinks so the numbers were down compared to our normal outdoor games, however the usual camaraderie flowed – interrupted part of the way through by Lesley Summersgill, Chris Brett, David Hamilton and Michael Morris claiming a Hot Shot for the Friends. Upon completion of the game, we sat down to an excellent meal prepared by Janice and David, with assistance for the bar from Ros and Diana. The Friends had a top rink of Margaret Morris, Martin Salter, Adie Booth and Neil Fletcher, and 5 Rivers had a top rink of Alison, Martin, David and Bob. The rinks were awarded in the usual manner and the top loosing rink for the Friends, were awarded Aero’s, that’s chocolates not bowls. The final scores were 2 rinks each but with the Friends coming out on top by 87 v 66. Having made the awards, everyone then joined in wishing our Friend, Michael Morris, a Happy Birthday.
An excellent end to our season and I am sure that all will be looking forward to 2025, and the Friends 20th Anniversary.
