Berkhamsted B.C. 27th
May 2010 - 25th Anniversary
As normal, at the first game of season,
committee members arrived for a meeting. We were met by Lesley Brown who
provided us with tea/coffee and biscuits. When other members of the Friends
team arrived the ladies of the club provided us with an excellent buffet lunch.
During the afternoon we were pleasantly surprised by the pace of the green, as
we had had quite a lot of over night rain.
As usual in these matches
the banter across the green was very noticeable so one would assume that
everyone was enjoying themselves and after a fine game of bowls the Friends
were the victors by a few shots. Then we returned to the clubhouse where the
ladies gave us an excellent after match meal, thank you one and all for a day
to remember.
The Friends of English Bowling would like to thank
Berkhamsted B.C. for inviting us to be one of their celebration games in this
their 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR.
Greenhill B.C. 10th June 2010 - 100th
Anniversary
A very warm welcome was extended to the Friends. After
an excellent game of bowls, we were entertained to a fine bowlers tea, the
score will not be mentioned. Barry Donovan our captain of the day did a fine
job, while also having a trip down memory lane, we would also like to thank Ray
Aldridge a long standing member of host club and also Dorset CBA Secretary for
many years for the invitation to Greenhill B.C. in their Centenary Year.
BE President's Team 24th June 2010
Nottingham
Headquarters was the venue for this fixture and what an excellent day we had a
superb buffet lunch and a very competitive game of bowls in the afternoon which
the President's team won by 6 shots, we then retired to the bar for liquid
refreshment and a fine after match meal. The President was presented with a
Notts County Division 2 Champions tee-shirt and Kath Lloyd, Friends' Captain,
thanked Graham Clark for all his hard work doing the Bowlers' Draw.
Retford Bowling Green Ltd. 25th June 2010
Unfortunately
only a few Friends ventured North for this fixture, but some met for lunch in a
local hostelry and then proceeded to the bowling green where we had tea/coffee
and biscuits. We played a game of 4 triples, which Retford won and then had a
fine ham salad. Thank you Retford for the hospitality shown to the Friends.
Waddesdon B.C. - 85th Anniversary
The Friends were
greeted by the members of the club and treated to a fine buffet lunch. The
weather was overcast, but the game was played on a green that many players of
the Friends wanted to roll up and take home with them. Jeff Applegate, captain
of the day for the Friends, ably kept us in control along with some of the host
club as well as it is his own club. On this occasion the opposition was very
kind to us and we had a good win. Afterwards we had a lovely meal in their
super clubhouse which they have done a lot of work to.
Lady
President's Team 11th August 2010
This, our annual fixture, was
ably hosted by the Royal Leamington Spa B.C. We played on the C green only
pausing for ice creams. A question was asked as to whether we were contravening
any rules by eating them on the green. The club provided an excellent meal of
salmon followed by raspberry tart. Once again, to the players of both sides,
thank you for making this a very enjoyable afternoon. Joan Balding told us a
very good joke and Graham Clark, Friends' Captain , thanked Angela Harris for
all her hard work on behalf of the Friends at Leamington.
Bowls
England Select 26th August 2010
This annual fixture is much looked
forward to by both sides. It was a full length match keenly fought by BE, who
had a few ringers in their team, enabling them to get their revenge for
previous defeats. We all retired to Field Place (Worthing IBC) where we had a
first class meal again and held a well supported draw for the Visually
Handicapped Bowlers Championships at Worthing 2013.
Herefordshire
CBA 9th September 2010
What a pleasure it was to use the new bowls
facilities at Weobly. The new green and clubhouse are a fine example of what
can be achieved by everybody pulling together. Don Pugh, one of FEB's members,
being Herefordshire's President this year, invited us along to play his county
side. As usual we were very good visitors and did not quite manage to win. The
club provided us with a very nicely cooked meal and it was hard to break the
party up and go home.
Chipping Campden BC 10th September 2010 -
100th Anniversary
From lovely Herefordshire countryside to lovely
Gloucestershire countryside and to another club to be proud of. What a super
day. A generous ploughman's lunch, a closely contested match, and do you
remember, a chocolate dessert to die for. Congratulations to them on their
100th Anniversary.
Bedfordshire CBA - 100th Anniversary
What an honour to be asked to help celebrate a county's 100th
anniversary and to go to Linslade BC to do so. Just as we all were arriving it
poured down with rain from a very black cloud, so into the clubhouse we went to
partake of a varied and tasty buffet. Despite more black clouds we played in
the dry and, of course, we were excellent visitors again, Bedfordshire having a
good win. Afterwards the county side, FEB members and club all celebrated the
County with a lovely meal, and in the end a very generous donation was made to
the Friends. Thank you.
Lockswood BC - Club of the Year Runner up
2009
Lockswood threw their doors open and threw a party for us
coming to congratulate them on their achievement. It was a bright sunny day and
so a lovely buffet was eaten outside, and then out we went onto the all weather
green. They play on it all the year round with others from other outdoor greens
joining them in the winter. We were pleased to have Peter Arnold, FEB member,
Chair of the BE Club of the Year committee, be Captain of the Day, presenting
the Friends engraved glass trophy for the Club of the year Runner up to the
club. |
