Fund raising and supporting the game of flat green
bowls in England.
Promoting bowls
Matches - arranging a small number of matches
for Members to enjoy
The Friends of English Bowling was set up in
2005 to provide sponsorship and development funding for the sport of outdoor
flat green bowls in England. The Friends provide an opportunity for
anyone who has enjoyed the sport to put something back, by providing much
needed financial support for its National Championships and Competitions, as
well as supporting development and grass root initiatives.
Whilst
initially established to support the mens game (EBA) our remit has now
been expanded, as a result of Unification, to support Bowls England which, of
course, embraces both genders. It follows that the majority of our members are
men and whilst we would wish to increase our general membership we would
welcome, in particular, more women members which would enable us to increase
our support for both National Championships.
The Friends
individual membership, since its inception, has hovered around the 200 mark, a
figure we would very much like to increase in order to provide further funding
for the sport. To become a member there is a joining fee of £10 and an
annual membership fee of £100. There are other categories of membership,
Corporate and Association, which encompasses Counties, Districts, Associations,
Clubs and Societies. For membership details please refer to the How to
join page of this website.
The organisation of the Bowlers Draw
is now being undertaken by the Friends on a voluntary basis. This
means that there are now virtually no overheads resulting in practically all
the proceeds being used either for the general benefit of the sport, or the
Clubs who retain 50% of their sales.
Members are also entitled to apply
for games that are organised each year, two of which are on the hallowed turfs
at Worthing and Leamington Spa during their respective National Championships.
Free entry to the National Championships at Worthing is also a privilege of
membership and in addition a hospitality marquee is provided at both venues to
allow members and sponsors to meet over tea and coffee and light refreshments.
Thank you for your interest in visiting our website and in anticipation
of your supporting our cause.
