Welcome to the 2018 season
The ‘Friends of English Bowling ‘gives a unique opportunity for all bowlers to show their support for the sport of outdoor bowls whilst enjoying a number of exclusive member benefits.
Originally formed in 2005, ‘The Friends’ gives everyone who has taken part and enjoyed bowls the opportunity to give something back and now has more than 300 members. Each member receives a lapel badge and regular newsletters and also Bowls England news updates by joining the ‘Friends of English Bowling Google Group’.
At the National Championships, a Hospitality Marquee and Lawn is provided where members can meet over tea, coffee and light refreshments, all free of charge, to catch up with fellow ‘Friends’ and discuss the day’s play. This Marquee is exclusively reserved throughout the Championships for the use of the Bowls England sponsors, the ‘Friends’ and special guests of Bowls England only. In addition, each individual member will be invited to a ticketed buffet lunch in the hospitality Marquee.
‘The Friends’ is the biggest supporter of the sport of outdoor bowls and uses its funds to back National Championships and Competition events at Royal Leamington Spa, assist youth development and support additional facilities provided for players and supporters at the Championships.
Members are entitled to apply for ‘ Friends’ matches organized each year, including two matches on the hallowed turf at Leamington. They are also entitled to enter a members only two wood pairs competition open to either gender on a designated day Tuesday, August 21st during the Championships.
In 2017 the total donated to Bowls England by ‘The Friends’ was £35,200. This money was allocated by Bowls England to support a number of National Championships and National Competitions and several high profile events including the Tony Allcock Trophy together with the provision during the Championships of First Aid facilities including a First Aid Tent, Air Conditioner and Wheelchair. In this total ‘The Friends’ donated £3,000 to Youth events and to Disability Bowls.
All 35 County Associations are Association Members of ‘The Friends, and in 2017 the funding was also allocated to help each county’s expenses associated with the final stages of the Middleton Cup, Johns Trophy, White Rose Trophy and Amy Rose Bowl.
