The Friends of English Bowling gives a unique opportunity for all bowlers to show their support for the sport of outdoor bowls whilst enjoying a number of exclusive member benefits.
Originally formed in 2005, The Friends gives everyone who has taken part and enjoys bowls, the opportunity to give something back, and we now have more than 340 members. Each member receives a lapel badge, regular newsletters, together with Bowls England News updates via the Friends of English Bowling Google Group.
Members may also participate in Friends bowls matches during the course of the season. Unfortunately in 2020 all our matches and activities were put on hold, and this year, due to Covid restrictions, our friendly matches will not begin until 1st July with our fixtures being further considered as and when the government regulations are received. Our usual games against Bowls England are unfortunately cancelled, and our members’ Two Woods competition which would normally take place during the National Championships at Leamington Spa will not take place.
The Friends of English Bowling is the biggest supporter of the sport of outdoor bowls in England and uses its funds to back National Championships and Competition events, assist youth development and support additional facilities provided for players and supporters at the Championships.
In 2019 the total donated to Bowls England by The Friends was £37,000. This money was allocated by Bowls England to support a number of National Championships and National Competitions, together with the provision of First Aid facilities. The Friends funded the purchase of a new First Aid tent and hope that they will be able to continue their support for the Championships when normality is resumed.
All 35 County Associations are Association Members of The Friends.
